Uncommon Photo-Op: Underwater Photography
It only takes losing your favorite camera to the salty depths once to realize that when traveling in the Caribbean, it’s a good idea to carry a “tough” camera. After much trial and more than a few errors, Uncommon Caribbean recommends the Canon Powershot D10 as our top choice.
This 12.1 megapixel marvel lives up to its odd submarine shape with a depth rating of up to 10 meters. That’s almost 3 times deeper than most comparable tough cameras. Add to that the D10′s ability to handle temperatures down to 14º F (not much of a concern in the islands, we know) plus drops of around 1.22 meters and you’ve got the perfect point and shoot companion for any vacation adventure.
The only shortcomings: 1) a bulgy, pocket-unfriendly shape, and 2) an inability to shoot HD video.
All that being said, there are a lot of choices out there for tough cameras, (check out Gizmodo) so you’re sure to find one that best fits your rainforest hiking, hot spring soaking, coral reef snorkeling, or just plain beach bum limin’ needs.
