I’m going to go out on a limb here and say if you’re currently in the northeast of the United States, you probably wouldn’t mind instantly transporting yourself to the serene locale pictured above. How can I be so sure? I’m one of you! Yes, I’m currently in New York City taking shelter next to a hard-working air conditioner on a day that saw temperatures hovering in the low 90’s… But days where the mercury is expected to top 100º are just around the corner! Forget 96º in the shade, we’re talking triple digits in the shade and otherwise!
It’s times like these when I find myself wondering why life can’t be more like TV. It always seems so easy to jump-cut to more pleasant environs for people on the tube.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: of the 37 gorgeous beaches surrounding the 37 picture-perfect square miles of St. Martin/St. Maarten, this beach is my favorite. Although it’s not the longest or widest beach on the island (that honor goes to Great Bay in Phillipsburg), it is the longest, widest, quiestest beach on the island. You see, there are no services on the entire beach other than the exclusive La Samanna Resort… But if you’re not their guest, don’t even bother trying to pop in when nature calls. And that’s great because, this helps keep the crowds away. Plus, since it’s right on the edge of the French side of the island, it’s also an au-naturel beach, naturally. Add in that the sand is the very definition of white, and it’s no wonder that it tops my list.
But with those 100º days looming on our horizon, the thing that would really make being there so very sweet right now is the crystal clear, cool water. Even rum might not be able to pull me from its watery embrace!
Unfortunately, I’ll be sweating it out like so many of you in the big city this weekend… But at least with this inviting image on my desktop, it’ll be like Calgon took me away… in my mind.
Try it out for yourself!
