Saturday Video: Surf’s Up on Anse Couleuvre, Martinique

Bodyboard Martinique - Couleuvre 2013

It’s the heart of the surfing season in Martinique right now, and as you can see in today’s featured video, shot just a few weeks ago along Anse Couleuvre, those lucky enough to find themselves in The Isle of Flowers are being rewarded with some nice waves.

Couleuvre is one of the more remote beaches on the island, located at the very northern edge of Martinique where the road that runs along the island’s Caribbean coast ends. On a clear day here you can see Dominica to the north, as you can in parts of the video. There’s also no road connecting Couleuvre to the Atlantic coast, so once you’re up here, the only one way back down south is the same way you came.

(You can, however, hike to the Atlantic coast by taking the Prêcheur to Grand-Rivière trail we mention here.)

The setting is one of pure natural beauty at Couleuvre; the verdant slopes of Mount Pelée at your back and a steady stream of waves at your disposal for your surfing and bodyboarding pleasure.

Martinique’s surfing season fizzles out at the end of March, so you’ll want to book your flight to Fort-de-France now to get in on the action…
