Saturday Video: Scuba Diving Bloody Bay Wall, Little Cayman
Anonymity is no prerequisite for being uncommon to me. In fact, some of my favorite uncommon things about the Caribbean have enjoyed some time in the national media spotlight.
These swimming porkers, for instance, were featured in last year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, while this beer-swilling pig recently graced the pages of USA Today.
(Don’t ask me why I’m stuck on pigs today.)
The dive site hiding beneath the inviting water pictured above also qualifies. It’s called Bloody Bay Wall, and by all accounts, it’s among the most famous dive sites in the Caymans, if not the entire Caribbean as a whole.
Bloody Bay Wall lies just offshore the north coast of Little Cayman. The drop off starts at a depth of 18 feet, which sounds nice and easy enough. The full descent from there, though, extends a jaw-dropping 1,000 feet to deepest, darkest who knows what!
On the way down, divers enjoy a wide range corals, sea fans, and the marine life that rely on them to survive, amidst some seriously clear water, as you can see in the video below…
Little Cayman, in and of itself, is off-the-beaten-path, of course, so Bloody Bay’s fame notwithstanding, the island is most definitely on our radar for a visit real soon.
