Stoke the Fires of Love (or Not) with These Two New Cruzan Rum Valentine’s Cocktails

Editor’s Note: Our erstwhile mixologist, Jesse Card, is becoming far less so! He’s back again today with a couple of new Cruzan Rum cocktail recipes crafted with love, one fit for those succumbing to the Valentine’s Day fun, and another for all the grouches in the house…

Love it or loathe it, Valentine’s Day is here. The day of hastily-arranged restaurant reservations, eventual shame and kowtowing, or the triumphant culmination of weeks of detailed planning climaxing in a crescendo of passion, complete with a $5 box of chocolates TV says all women MUST have!

Hmm… Yeah.

Whether you’re a lovesick Lothario or ambivalent to chalky candy hearts, we’ve got you covered.

Cruzan® Hot Velvet Ingredients:
  • 1 part Cruzan Velvet Cinn
  • 1 part Cruzan Estate Diamond Dark
  • 2 parts Hot Chocolate
  • 1 pinch Chili Powder
  • 1 tiny pinch Salt

For the paramour I’ve crafted a decadent hot tipple that will warm you up better than any day at the beach. (Figuratively, of course. Let’s face it, there’s nothing better than a day at the beach.)

The “Cruzan Hot Velvet” combines hot cocoa, Cruzan Velvet Cinn Rum Horchata with a touch of chili to spice things up. Let’s face it, with much of the country dealing with bitter winter weather, a little help to heat things up will go a long way.

Method: Combine all ingredients in a sauce pot and whisk briskly until warm. (Alternate use: Use an espresso machine steam wand to bring to temp.) Garnish with grated cinnamon.

If you prefer to fly solo and eschew the overly commercial vagaries of Valentine’s Day, fear not for I have the perfect cocktail for you too!

Cruzan Cinngle Lady Ingredients:
  • 1.5 oz Cruzan Black Strap
  • 1.5 oz Cruzan Velvet Cinn
  • .5 oz Coco Lopez

Express yourself with the aptly tongue-in-cheek titled “Cruzan Cinngle Lady.” This rich blend of Cruzan Black Strap Rum and Velvet Cinn with a touch of coconut creme is sure to bring you buoyancy at a table for one. Let’s be honest, when you have a great drink in front of you, who needs cheap flowers from CVS?

Combine all ingredients with a cup of ice in a blender and pulse three times. Pour into a rocks glass and garnish with fresh grated nutmeg.

Cheers + Happy Valentine’s Day!
