Untold Stories of 2014

We shared more than 300 posts and thousands of photos on Uncommon Caribbean in 2014, the vast majority of them stemming directly from the many various trips we made to our home region last year. Such large numbers certainly suggest we must’ve covered all of our favorite travel experiences of the year, right?

Err, wrong. There were simply too many adventures and uncommon discoveries to cover.

This sprawling network of caves, also located in southern Haiti, compare favorably to the much better-known Rio Camuy Caves in Puerto Rico, though I can tell you that exploring them was way more of an adventure than the near Disney experience at Rio Camuy.

To see this, you have to venture to a reasonably remote part of Martinique that, to me, offers one of the best and most diverse hiking experiences in the Caribbean.

Another wild and diverse spot in Martinique I still need to tell you about, Garage Popular is the best little bar in the Caribbean no one’s ever heard about…

More common, but no less worthy of our spotlight, Fort Shirley and The Cabrits in Dominica were a big highlight of my travels in 2014.
