Saturday Soundtrack: On The Radio in Trinidad & Tobago

It’s a small thing – rather inconsequential to most, I’m sure – but one of the big reasons I personally love visiting Trinidad and Tobago is the radio stations. This likely has a lot to do with the fact that I live in South Florida, where even mediocre radio programming would be an upgrade.

(Note: this bit of whining pertains more to the English-language stations in South Florida. Spanish stations pumping salsa, merengue, bachata, etc. are A-ok with me.)

In Trinidad and Tobago, though, seemingly every station is a winner, primarily spinning a high-energy (and often hilarious) mix of old and new school soca, reggae, dancehall, and hip hop.

To give you a taste, I put together a quick 8tracks mix featuring some of the tunes we heard while making the drive from Port-of-Span to Manzanilla Beach a few months ago.
