Deal Of The Week: Havana Marathon Tours from InsightCuba

As Cuba continues to become increasingly accessible to U.S. travelers, new ways of experiencing the Caribbean’s largest country are starting to emerge. Among the most uncommon we’ve seen: Havana Marathon Tours from InsightCuba.

That’s right, Havana hosts an annual marathon (Who knew?), and for the second year in a row, regular-old Americans can compete in it.

InsightCuba, one of the top U.S. tour operators specializing in Cuba, secured the first license ever granted by the U.S. Government for Americans to participate in the race last year. For 2015, the company is at it again, offering both four-day and eight-day tour packages, the longer option affording runners more time to enjoy Cuba, with a post-race trip to the western province of Pinar del Rio included.

Per U.S. Government laws and regulations, both tour options will also include people-to-people encounters with locals, presumably beyond simply running side-by-side with Cuban athletes through the streets of Havana.

Rates range from $1,895 to $3,495 per registered runner based on double occupancy. Competitors wishing to travel alone will be subject to single supplement fees of $250 for the four-day tour and $400 for the eight-day option.

Rates are also available for non-participants wishing to join the fun in Havana and root you on.

Your race fees are included too, of course, as are hotel accommodations, just about all of your meals (you’re only on your own twice), transportation in Cuba, an optional medical check-up, travel health insurance, cancellation insurance, baggage handling, gratuities for all included meals, entrance fees for all included activities, 24-hour customer service hotline, and all the bottled water you might need while touring around Cuba.

Round-trip airfare, however, is not included. Jetting to Havana will run you $645 from Miami, which includes your Cuba Visa and departure taxes, as well as baggage fees for your first checked bag.
