Daring The Shallows Off Dragon Cay, Turks and Caicos

In the quiet still of the sometimes when life affords us the opportunity to look back on our past and maybe, perhaps learn a thing or two, it’s often instructive to, you know, pay attention.

This selfie is compelling me to do just that today.

I snapped it a few weeks ago in the shallows that surround Dragon Cay, a positively picturesque spec of an islet sitting just offshore Mudjin Harbour in Middle Caicos, Turks and Caicos.

As was the case in St. Martin’s Baie de l’Embouchure, Dragon Cay’s close proximity to the Mudjin beach enticed me to trek out to her, if only just to have her sandy shores all to myself for a fleeting stitch in time.

I did, of course, the full story of which I’ll share in the near future. Today, though, let’s focus on that water.

That crisp and insanely clear water.

That water of which I knew absolutely nothing about before throwing caution to the wind and setting off to slay the Dragon.

That water, which, as I learned later, is very often loaded with Man-O-War jellies.

You know, the kind that sting real, real bad.

Yeah, hmmm…

I just turned 45 today.

Time to slow down?

In the back of my mind I could hear a soft voice asking in the quiet reflection of my special day. I had been lucky that day at Dragon Cay, as I’d been many, many other times before.

Time to slow down?

I think you know the answer…
