Buck Island
Our Posts about Buck Island
Dropping anchor off West Beach, Buck Island, that perfect piece of uninhabited U.S. National Park Service paradise located off the northeast coast of my (and Patrick’s) home island, St. Croix.

Getting back into the swing of everyday life is usually a tough proposition following any trip to the Caribbean, but after my just completed birthday journey home to St. Croix I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to return to the everyday life I once knew. The whole experience was just so remarkable, so touching and special that I can’t stop pouring over the hundreds of photos I snapped, and reminiscing over the past few days as though they took place years and years ago. When it comes to traveling to St. Croix, I can think of many, many reasons to make the trip. We’ve talked about some of them right here on Uncommon Caribbean. There’s the easternmost point of the United States at Point Udall, St. Patrick’s Day festivities, the beer drinking pigs, the favorite rum of Steve and I: Cruzan Rum, the excellent food to be had every year at the St. Croix Food and Wine Experience, the excellent food to be had year round at restaurants like Salud! and, of course, our own resident mixologist, Jesse Card.

Regret. It’s a terrible thing. I try very hard to avoid having regrets about anything in my life, but there are a few things I missed out on while growing up in St. Croix that I wish I could go back in time to enjoy more fully now.
Take Buck Island, for instance. This small, (176 acres) uninhabited island located a mile and a half off the northeast coast of St. Croix is a prime day sail destination for visitors and locals alike. The whole island and its surrounding waters have been protected by the U.S. Government since 1948, so it’s all nature out here.
