The other day I ran across this old article on the New York Times entitled 6 Caribbean Beaches to See Before You Die by Jeremy W. Peters. In this “brief guide,” Jeremy opens with a statement near and dear to our hearts here at Uncommon Caribbean: “the Caribbean Sea — with islands that are flat, mountainous, tiny and vast — is specked with beaches that defy tropical conventions.”

You may not have realized it, but in this weekly feature with my photography from around the Caribbean, I actively try not to post wallpapers featuring nothing but pristine white-sand beaches.
Madness? Maybe. But with so many beautiful vistas found throughout the region, I hope to highlight some of the more uncommon whenever I can…
That is, except this week. As long as I’m still ~~trapped~~ visiting the in-laws here in cold, damp, dark, small town East Germany, all bets are off!

Caribbean Wallpaper Wednesday: Graffiti Tank, Culebra

Suppose I told you there was a small, remarkably idyllic and fairly unpopulated island in the Caribbean just a short distance from the mainland United States, an island so immaculate, plans were in the works to make it a National Wildlife Refuge, an island with a beach rated as one of the best beaches in the world, an island where you could basically do whatever you wanted along its iridescent shores with little chance of being interrupted by prying eyes.
