Our Posts about Nevis
As those of you who follow us on Facebook and twitter already know, I just returned from my first-ever trip to Nevis, where I was fortunate enough to stay at the fabulous Nisbet Plantation Beach Club. As I remarked in an earlier post, Nisbet ranks among the premiere spots for romance in the Caribbean, ideal for honeymoons, anniversaries (I was celebrating my 10th), destination weddings, or any other reason to steal away to the islands with the one you love.
Even the muffins they serve at breakfast are shaped like hearts, so you can tell that romance is always a priority here.
There’s a lot to love about Nisbet Plantation in Nevis, especially for lovers. Don’t get me wrong – families can enjoy magical vacation experiences here too, but just look at this place. It doesn’t scream romance (that would be too bourgeois) so much as it whispers it, gently; a soft kiss sure to follow.
Classic properties like this are a real treat to me. Service and pampering here are born of an established tradition enjoyed by the traveling elite for generations. At the same time, all the modern amenities found at today’s newest resorts are readily available. Two of my favorites at Nisbet: free Wifi (not as widely available at Caribbean resorts as you might think) and complimentary use of a Flip digital video camera to capture vacation memories.
As a born and bred West Indian, it’s hard for me to believe that Americans don’t eat enough fish. I mean, what tastes better and is better for you than a steaming hot plate of undersea delights?
Still, it’s estimated that only 20% of Americans meet the recommended two servings of fish per week.
Perhaps this recipe for Roasted Plantain Wrapped Snapper Fillet with Virgin Salsa and Tomato Coulis can help to make a change.
Sporting a mouthful of a name with a tasty flavor to match, this seafood treat is a popular favorite of guests at the exclusive Nisbet Plantation in Nevis.
Most top-10 lists of the Caribbean’s best family vacation destinations would not include Nevis. Small and wonderfully sleepy, Nevis takes pride in offering vacation experiences that “take you back to a time when things were simpler” (think 1950′s Caribbean before the development boom). This fits perfectly for couples and nature lovers enticed by the island’s ultra-luxury resorts, historic plantation inns and exotic flora and fauna. But for short attention span 21st century kids; not so much.
Enter the Mullen’s, a South Florida-based British family of four who vacationed in Nevis recently. For them the Queen of the Caribees was perfect. Why? We sat down with Jenny Mullen, mother and chief vacation-planner, to find out.
