Many visitors to St. Maarten flock to Sunset Bar on Maho Bay to experience an odd tourist attraction: an airport. Princess Juliana Airport to be exact.
You may have seen the amazing photos of jumbo jets passing just above the heads of beachgoers, but what really amazed us on our last visit was how strangely excited all the people were who had flown in from around the world, all the way to a gorgeous island in the Caribbean, teeming with topnotch restaurants, miles of immaculate clothing optional beaches, reefs overflowing with undersea life, 10′s of thousands of locals to meet, and more… Only to spend their day on the edge of a noisy airport.

Club Orient at Orient Bay: Spend Your Birthday in Your Birthday Suit

Anyone who’s spent any time with me knows I like adventure. In fact, my birthday last year was spent high in the mountains of Morocco on a 22-day trek that consisted of walking eight hours a-day, camping in the wilderness, and braving craggy cliffs at 13,000 feet. So this year, I decided to really expose myself to the harsh elements by visiting St. Martin‘s most famous clothing optional beach at Orient Bay.
My wife, Kathleen and I awoke early at L’Esplanade and started to get ready. We packed a couple bags with towels, sunglasses, hats, and lots of SPF 50 suntan lotion.
