Pirates. I’ve made it pretty obvious around here that I don’t like pirates. They’re filthy, smelly, brutal, lice covered wretches who, through some unlikely twist of history, gained a fun-loving, even kid-friendly, role in today’s pop culture. (Seriously, who are the pop-culture pirates of tomorrow? The Taliban?) So, you might think when presented with another rum bottle adorned with yet another scoundrel in an eyepatch that I might say “no, thank you.”
But you’d be wrong… at least in the case of this particular bottle.

I hear there’s some big movie coming out that has to do with lovable pirates sailing all over the Caribbean with beautiful women looking for treasure.
You might think Uncommon Caribbean would be all over that kind of thing…
Well, you’d be wrong.
Nope.
Not gonna do it.
You see, flights of fancy are fun, but we here at UC are trying to bring you the real Caribbean, and the real pirates of the Caribbean were the last people you’d drop $20 to spend two hours with… Especially in 3D.
The first clue that might alert you to a real pirate in your midst, even before seeing one, would be the smell.

Captain Jack Takes a Cruz

All the recent talk about Penelope Cruz joining the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean 4 got us thinking about the excellent locations throughout the Caribbean where the first 3 Pirates films were shot. If you’d like to re-create some of the more memorable moments in the adventures of Jack Sparrow, here’s where you should go…
Wallilabou Bay, St. Vincent
Port Royal, where the story begins for Jack, Will and Elizabeth, is situated on the northwest coast of St. Vincent. The set was basically built around a hotel in this black sand cove.
Samana, Dominican Republic
Quite a bit of the first movie was filmed here in the northeast DR before they moved to Dominica as the main shooting location for the next two films.
