Maria and Carmen Placencia, Belize by Patrick Bennett

Pull Up a Stool for Authentic Eats at Maria and Carmen in Placencia, Belize

Placencia, Belize has it all.

Over 12 miles of beaches, easy access to some of the most stunning cays found anywhere in the Caribbean, the largest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere, dive sites teeming with sea life from turtles to whale sharks, world-class fly fishing on the lagoon side, and luxury accommodations like Chabil Mar.

There’s simply no shortage of adventures to be had here.

Still, some of my fondest memories of this charming village were made on stools at local haunts like Maria and Carmen (also known as Carmen and Maria) sampling traditional treats on the side of the road.

Wish you were here?
