Anchored Off Ladder Bay, Saba: Wish You Were Here

Whenever approaching Saba by ferry from St. Maarten, you’re sure to encounter a scattering of sailboats anchored off her western shores. It’s a curious sight as the sheer slopes stretching straight up from the sea don’t appear to offer any even remote access to the island.

Somewhere along these rock walls, though, lies a steep set of 800 steps carved into the rock. Known simply as The Ladder, the steps lead to Saba’s old Customs House.

Before The Road, Saba’s only thoroughfare, was completed in the 1940’s, The Ladder served as the primary way to come ashore here.

Today, visitors to Saba can enjoy hiking The Ladder, while sailors still enjoy the secure anchorages in Ladder Bay.

Still Spoiling for Saba: Uncommon Envy

Saba, seems to be the perfect destination for me. I mean, you can't get any more uncommon in the Caribbean than an island without any beaches, right?
