Sailing British Virgin Islands by Patrick Bennett

Are the British Virgin Islands Your Definition of Paradise?

A place or state of bliss, felicity, or delight

The Merriam-Webster definition above focuses on the mental state associated with the word paradise, but what about the particular ingredients a place must have to produce such feelings of “bliss, felicity, or delight?” What’s the special recipe that sailing in the British Virgin Islands seems to have perfected?

Well, just look at that photo above.

What do you see?

I see freedom. You want to swim? Go ahead! You want to sail to new shores? Go ahead! Maybe you want to wear less? More? Nothing? There’s no one around to shame you either way!

I see beauty. Just. Look. At. That. Water! Radiant in turquoise and aquamarine. Imagine being surrounded by it on all sides while it beckons you to sample its salty depths or simply marvel as it sparkles in the Caribbean sun.

I see warmth. I’m sorry, but there’s no way that paradise is cold. That West Indian warmth pictured above penetrating every pore of your person is more than enough to produce a state of bliss.

I see peace. No fussing. No fighting. Just the space to enjoy the ones you’re with.

These may be my main ingredients for paradise, but there are so many other little things that make sailing the British Virgin Islands so practically perfect. Those winds, the people, the protected coves, and geological wonders — the list goes on and on.

If you’re looking to immerse yourself in this perfect slice of paradise, check out our friends at Sunsail. They offer crewed, skippered, and bareboat charters out of Wickham’s Cay II, Tortola. There’s even a BVI Rum Flotilla for those of you who (like me) enjoy their rum with a side of sailing!

See you in paradise.
