Sailing Buck Island Channel, St. Croix

Isn’t this where you want to be?

On a boat, out at sea, a crisp-clean sea breeze caressing your skin; your very soul…

This, though, is no ordinary boat. This is Teroro II, the legendary 38-foot trimaran skippered by our childhood friend, Captain Carl Punzenberger.

The location is pretty sweet too: somewhere in the middle of the Buck Island Channel, en route back to Green Cay Marina after a full morning of snorkeling, sunning, and adventuring around the Channel’s namesake island back on our home in St. Croix.

It’s not a long sail. Buck Island sits less than two miles offshore of St. Croix’s East End.

Still, it’s not a trip you’ll soon forget.

Buck Island Channel waters are rife with all manner of sea life – dolphins, sea turtles, and sharks are all common sights along the short sail. Make the sail near dusk and you’re liable to see dinoflagellates illuminating Teroro’s wake.

As one of the only charter companies offering fully non-motorized excursions to Buck Island, Teroro II & Dragonfly Buck Island Charters delivers a singularly special experience that’s a must for us each and every time we find ourselves back home.

Wish you were here…?

It doesn't get quite the run as its sister Virgin Islands to the north, but sailing around our home island of St. Croix is pretty sweet in its own right.

When I'm back home in St. Croix and lucky enough to be out at Buck Island, being beached is something special, fun. Something I never want to end.

Buck Island Sunset Moment of Zen

Charter boat operators make enjoying all the best that Buck Island has to offer by day easy. Enjoying a Buck Island sunset, though, is rare.
