Malliouhana Stairway to the Sea – Wish You Were Here?
A steep set of stairs snake down from the swanky Malliouhana Resort in Anguilla to the sea. The Malliouhana stairway takes you to a rocky outcropping that juts out due west above the surf. It’s a sublimely sweet perch, particularly at the close of each day. From here, the sight of the sun slowly disappearing over Meads Bay is simply incredible.
Spectacular sunsets, though, aren’t the only treats enticing guests down the Malliouhana stairway.
Exit left upon descending the stairs and you’ll find the ultra-secluded shores of Turtle Cove. The beach is a cozy sanctum of white sand carved out by the sea beneath the limestone and coral cliffs upon which the Malliouhana sits.
The amount of sand here shifts with the tides. An odd boulder or two lay strewn about. Turtle Cove is small, wild, untamed. The very antithesis of your typical perfectly-manicured luxury resort beach.
In short, it’s perfect.
At least it is if you love your raw/secluded Caribbean beach vibes within a trek up the Malliouhana stairway of your elegant resort accommodations. This, of course, suits my tastes just fine.
Apparently, Turtle Cove suits most Malliouhana guests just fine as well. Resort staff don’t even intrude on your beach fun on Turtle Cove, so what’s not to like?
Some say that the untamed seclusion has led a few more adventurous guests to enjoy Turtle Cove au naturel. Can’t say that we have concrete knowledge of, or first-hand experience with this. At the same time, though, we can confirm that nude sunbathing is illegal in Anguilla.
So yeah, you’ll want to proceed down the steep Malliouhana stairway with caution…on several levels.
Wish you were here..?
