Conch Pistol aka Bahamian Viagra – My First Not-So-Sexy Taste

It’s easy to be skeptical about all the different natural male enhancement elixirs found throughout the Caribbean. Results may vary from person to person, and often do, as they say. Maybe your sea moss wasn’t mixed just right. Or maybe your batch of bois bande didn’t pack enough of the right, *ahem*, wood. The only way to make sure you get a boost where it counts is to reach for the raw option – conch pistol.

I got my first “taste” of this potent pick-me-up last year with Rasta Steve at The Fish Fry on Great Exuma.

Eating conch, as we’ve noted before, is THE staple food of The Bahamas. Eaten raw in a conch salad is undoubtedly among the most flavorful ways it’s enjoyed. But of course, other popular conch meat favorites are cracked conch and conch fritters. Eating raw conch pistol, however, is a whole nother story.

Sex Benefits of Conch Pistol

You don’t eat it for its flavor… it has none.

You don’t eat it to satisfy your hunger either… it’s too small for that.

You eat because, as Rasta Steve told me…

It’s Bahamian Viagra.

Colorless, odorless, wiggly, and slimy, pistols or conch worm are commonly said to be the conch’s male genitalia. People will tell you this most anywhere pistols are prevalent. It’s a notion that dovetails nicely with the supposed Viagra-like, sex drive revving qualities of the stuff. The only problem is, it’s not true.

Both males and females sport conch aphrodisiac pistols, and marine scientists agree that this body part of the conch is used to aid in digestion.

Either way, when Rasta Steve yanked one out of his queen conch shells for me, you just knew I had to try it…

Before we get into whether or not it works, a note about consumption: don’t chew. Squeamishness may compel you to nervously get the pistol between your teeth. Seriously, don’t. You won’t like it that way. Best to do as I did and suck your conch viagra straight down.

Is conch an aphrodisiac food?

As for its effectiveness… well, I had a tough time sleeping that night. It wasn’t over an upset stomach, either, but rather another part of my anatomy that was feeling rather spry for some reason…
