Sailboats off Martinique by Patrick Bennett

Experience Sailing Week Presented by Intrepid Travel

We are all drawn to the sea – to fish and swim. To love. To live our dreams. Perhaps to find ourselves, or even just to get lost. The sea makes it all possible, asking precious little of us, while providing more than we could’ve ever imagined.

You can enjoy a lot of what the sea has to offer on any visit to the Caribbean, but nothing quite compares with a full-on sailing adventure.

We’re not talking huge, mega-cruise liners here, of course. They’re fine for most, I guess, but uncommon travelers like us want more. We want to truly connect with the sea; to fully appreciate her essence in a way that’s just not possible chugging along a good 200 feet above sea level.

In short, we want a more intimate experience.

We want an Intrepid sailing adventure.

For the past 25 years, our friends at Intrepid have been taking small groups of uncommon travelers on amazing adventures all over the world. These are no ordinary itineraries, of course. As noted in their tagline, Intrepid offers “real life experiences,” the kinds that leave you with more than just pretty pictures and a drawer full of cheesy tchotchkes.

Intrepid is new to the Caribbean – their first sailing adventures just launched last month – but the real life experiences they offer in our islands show a depth and appreciation for the more authentic side of our home region well beyond their years.

Their destinations – Martinique, St. Lucia and the BVI’s – are all favorites of ours, while their use of smaller sailing vessels – between 48 and 52 feet – skippered by experienced local crew ensure you’ll see a side of these shores that’s anything but cookie-cutter.

(MUCH more on Intrepid’s Martinique/St. Lucia, and British Virgin Islands itineraries here and here.)

No doubt, we have a lot in common with Intrepid, which is why we’ve teamed up with them to launch the very first Uncommon Caribbean Sailing Week starting today!

Over the next seven days, all of our content will be devoted to exploring the wonders of sailing the Caribbean Sea. As usual, we’ll focus on the uncommon – virtually uncharted islets, secluded shores and all the tips and advice you might need to enjoy them to the fullest.

If you follow us on twitter, then you’ll want to keep an eye out for the #UCsailingweek hashtag to make sure you don’t miss anything.

So, kick off your shoes and come aboard as we set sail with Intrepid on the virtual journey of a lifetime…

Special Offer: Virtual sailing adventures are nice, but if you’re ready to cast off for some real-life fun, then you’ll want to check out the special savings currently being offered by Intrepid on their amazing Caribbean itineraries. For details, click here.
