Les Roches Percées Zen Moments in Terre-de-Haut, Guadeloupe

The sight of it caught me a bit off guard upon arriving at La Plage de Pompierre, one of the premier beaches in Terre-de-Haut, Guadeloupe. A huge series of rocks rising from the sea stretching across nearly the entire span of the bay. Les Roches Percées.

It’s striking… Tempting.

Like this islet in St. Martin’s Baie de l’Embouchure, Les Roches Percées are close enough to shore to access on foot.

Trudge the the shallows across what’s known as the Petite Passe.Be careful to avoid jagged rocks and sea urchins. Scale to the top of the first of Les Roches. You’ll trek along a well-worn path that winds up from the rocky shoreline into breezy grasslands. The route culminates amid weather-beaten shear rock heights.

Here, you’ll revel in scenic views of Pompierre Beach and its bay. Calm waters shielded from the ever-churning Atlantic by Les Roches Percées separate your perch from la plage. Dominica is. visible a bit further to the south, while Morne Morel soars 446 feet before you like this…

Your monthly Moment of Zen.
