Appleton V/X Jamaicanite Cocktail: Friday Happy Hour
Rum is obviously always all the rage at the annual Miami Rum Renaissance Festival, but not all of it is always enjoyed on its own. If you love rum cocktails, there’s hardly a better event at which to satiate your desires. Among my faves at the 2014 Rumfest is a sweet little treat from Appleton called Jamaicanite.
Now, I’m not sure if the “nite” at the end is meant as a play on dynamite, though one could surely use such an explosive term to describe this cocktail.
Or maybe the link is to nite, as in “goodnite,” a word that will likely pass your lips after downing a few of these.
- 2oz Appleton V/X
- 1/2oz Honey
- 1/2oz Grapefruit
- 1/2oz Lemon Juice
- Dash of Angostura Bitters
Either way, the Jamaicanite is deadly and delicious, in large part owing to its main ingredient, Appleton V/X.
A blend of various fine Jamaican rums aged between five and 10 years, V/X is hearty and bold with wonderful notes of oak, tropical spices, and pure Jamaica niceness.
Jamaicanite builds upon V/X’s strong foundation, combining a tad more sour than sweet to create something special. Here’s how you make it.
Method:
Pour your honey, grapefruit, lemon, and Appleton V/X in your shaker. Add ice and a healthy dash of bitters. Shake, shake, shake til you can’t hold the shaker anymore, then pour your Jamaicanite in your tumbler.
Garnish with a lemon slice and some mint if you like, or just deal with it on its own.
G’nite!
