Finding Beauty Amid the Bittersweet Over The Bahamas

This was the scene yesterday, soaring high above The Bahamas en route to Saint Croix. The occasion marks my first visit back to my home island in 13 months. This would usually be cause for celebration, but not this time. This time I’m home for a funeral. This time, it’s not all fun and games.

At the same moment that I snapped this photo, the wife was in Pennsylvania living out one of the proudest moments of our lives. She was moving one of our twins into his new digs at Bucknell University. Our alma mater.

My son’s college life was starting just as I was jetting home to honor the life of a man who was like a second father to me.

At the same time, mere moments before I boarded my flight, I learned of the tragic passing of another close friend in Trinidad.

To be sure, it was a very, very teary flight.

At the same time, though, there were beautiful scenes of The Bahamas like the one above. Beautiful scenes within which I found some solace, some strength.

Rest in peace, Fico and Warren, and best of luck to Austin and my other son, Jacob, who starts his college adventure at FIU next week.
