Buck Island, St. Thomas

There’s another Buck Island in the U.S. Virgin Islands, but the experience of visiting this one is not much like the Buck Island you can enjoy on our home island of St. Croix. This Buck Island sits two miles off the south coast of St. Thomas. Like the Crucian version, it’s uninhabited and protected. Unlike our Buck Island, you’re prohibited from anchoring and coming ashore here. Instead, private boaters and tour companies tie up to mooring balls giving snorkelers and divers the chance to explore the island’s vibrant coral reefs and shipwreck. Aptly-named Turtle Cove on the northwest side of the island is one of the best places in the USVI to see and swim with sea turtles.
