Fishing Boat at Rest in Jacmel, Haiti
Out there on the high seas plying their trade, they amaze ⎯ the storied old fishing boats of the Caribbean forever battling time and tides to deliver the catch of the day. Engine stalls, bad luck spells, squalls, and the like stunt their progress from time to time. They always seem to come back, though, ever stronger each time. At rest is when you really see their resilience, the weathered hulls proudly bearing the stress of many, many years of service. Peeling paint, rust, bleached wood; all badges of honor adorning this fishing boat I happened upon in Jacmel recently, its enduring strength reminiscent of Haiti herself.
