Paseo de Sombrillas, Puerto Rico
There are times when we could all use a little extra dose of hope. Some words of encouragement, a pat on the back – anything that can help us endure trying times. The Paseo de Sombrillas has worked to that effect for many in Puerto Rico since Hurricane Maria. Designed in the tradition of the famed Umbrella Sky Project, El Paseo de Sombrillas is meant to symbolize all that makes Puerto Rico uniquely vibrant, fun, and resilient.
Just as umbrellas move fluidly with the wind, Puerto Rico is a place that flows and majestically embraces every challenge it faces.
So reads a portion of the plaque commemorating the eminently insta-worthy attraction. You’ll find it floating above Calle Fortaleza in front of the Governor’s Mansion in Old San Juan. Please note, though, that public art installations like this aren’t meant to last forever. A few umbrellas were missing when I visited a couple days ago.  Heavy rains in August are likely to blame.
