Best Taste of Home: Johnny Cakes on Shoys Beach, St. Croix

Many are the signature tastes of my home island of St. Croix that put my mind, body, and soul squarely back on island time; that take all the stress and strife of stateside living off my back and 100% out of my consciousness.

Of all those cherished tastes, though, none comes close to that first Johnny Cake enjoyed back on home soil.

Flaky, filling, warm, and wonderful, a great Johnny Cake makes all the difference for me. This one, that I enjoyed this morning, was even better than usual since I got to enjoy it on Shoys Beach with my wife, my kids, my brother, Patrick, his wife, and their kids.

Any beach family lime is great, but in St. Croix, for me, Johnny Cakes always makes every occasion priceless.

Cheers from St. Croix!

West Is Best in St. Croix

The axiom has held true in St.Croix for as long as anyone can remember. West Is Best – much less a reckless boast espoused by the residents of Frederiksted than an affirmation generally shared by all Crucians of the many things that make the left coast of our home island so special.

Surf Line Sunning At Shoys Beach, St. Croix

I noted a couple changes to Shoys Beach on my latest visit to St. Croix just four short weeks ago. None detracted from the usual sweetness here, though.
