Fancy Dancing at The Palms at Pelican Cove: Photo of the Day

Dancing, it seems, is always on the agenda at The Palms at Pelican Cove. This tropically charming seaside hotel on the north shore of our home island of St. Croix is easily among the most popular wedding venues in the U.S. Virgin Islands. I don’t have any hard stats to back this up, mind you. Just personal experience gleaned from many a move personally busted on the dance floor that is the hotel’s pool deck at many a wedding in recent years.

It wasn’t until I stayed here a couple years ago, though, that I realized that there’s another, much more uncommon dance party that goes on here 24/7/365, and it has nothing to do with getting hitched.

Indeed, the real dancing at this hotel is all about its absolutely ideal location on a breezy patch of pristine shoreline just west of St. Croix’s principal town, Christiansted. Here, amid one of the greatest concentrations of coconut palms I’ve ever seen anywhere, the wind blows in off the sea constantly.

I mean day and night. Nonstop. A steady, supremely cooling breeze that keeps the whole place comfy, inside and out, all of the time.

The wonderful wind at The Palms also keeps the property’s namesake trees, like those pictured above, dancing around the clock. Whether you’re there for a wedding or just some r&r, don’t be surprised if these animated trees get you up and grooving as well.

It’s hard not to be inspired as the palms sway playfully to and fro with the persistent gusts, the trees entertaining you as much as the breeze keeps you cool; the combination engendering a level of celebratory glee worthy of a dance…

Hams Bay, St. Croix

It's not the sexiest side of St. Croix; at least, I imagine, not to most people. Personally, though, I love the wild natural beauty of Hams Bay.
