Rhythms at Rainbow Beach: Sunday Funday on St. Croix

A typical bar scene on a typical Sunday at the tremendously atypical Rhythms at Rainbow Beach Bar & Grill on my home island of St Croix. The pic says more than a thousand words. For me, it just keeps talking and talking on into infinity.

It speaks of countless Sundays spent here with childhood friends and, more recently, new UC fans.

It speaks of dancing in the rain. Ice-cold greenies. Strong Cruzan Rum and Cokes. It even whispers of a girl named Gigi, days Rainbow’s scant swath of sandy beach, and genuinely jaw-dropping sunsets.

The concept of Sunday Funday did not originate at Rainbow Beach. At least I don’t think it did. For much of the bar’s existence, though, they certainly worked hard to perfect it. To be sure, if you’ve yet to experience Sunday Funday here, well… you’re missing one of the best weekly parties held anywhere in the Caribbean.

West Is Best in St. Croix

The axiom has held true in St.Croix for as long as anyone can remember. West Is Best – much less a reckless boast espoused by the residents of Frederiksted than an affirmation generally shared by all Crucians of the many things that make the left coast of our home island so special.
