Saturday Video: Scuba Diving Frederiksted Pier, St. Croix

Frederiksted Pier, St Croix. Beautiful yet overfished. from For The Sea Productions on Vimeo.

A couple weeks ago, when we called on our good friend Warren Solomon to highlight a few beginner scuba diving tips for those wishing to pick up the sport in Tobago, we got an impassioned plea via Facebook from an old friend to give some props to the undersea wonders in the waters around our own home island of St. Croix.

Well, Deborah Huber, this Saturday Video post is for you!

The video above showcases a bit of the dive experience that awaits beneath the Frederiksted Pier located off St. Croix’s west coast. Spending afternoons here plunging from atop the pier to the deep-blue water below is a rite of passage for all kids lucky enough to grow up in the largest of the three primary U.S. Virgin Islands. It’s also a must for cooling off after trampin’ during Carnival. As you can see, though, the fun here extends well below the surface.

The video was produced by award winning underwater filmmaker Ziggy Livnat who works to promote marine conservation via visual experience. I’d say he also works to promote the type of undersea adventures I hope to start enjoying soon.

Have you dived the Frederiksted Pier site? If so, leave us a comment below to share your experience.
