Summer Sunsets on Davis Bay Back Home in St. Croix

The North Shore of St. Croix may seem an unlikely place to enjoy an amazing sunset, what with Frederiksted and her attendant miles of sandy coastline, just a short drive away, facing almost exactly due west.

During the summer months, though, as the sun shifts her daily track ever so slightly across the sky, sweet shores like these found along Davis Bay make for some truly memorable end of day spectacles.

My memories of sunsets here goes way back to childhood afternoons spent bodysurfing here til the last light of day. The Renaissance Carambola Beach Resort that has so come define these shores wasn’t even a dream at the time. All around was just rainforest, stone ruins from way back when, and an old caretaker guarding the road to the beach. The grownups would ply him with rum to allow us entry. Those were the days.

Current days here aren’t too shabby either, though. The beach remains marvelous, the waves generally good, and the summer sunsets quite obviously still spectacular…

Back to St. Croix

Favorite beaches, because the food is so good, because the sunsets are so beautiful, to swim with the fish, to go sailing, because it never snows there — there are probably a million reasons to return to St. Croix. What are yours?

Hams Bay, St. Croix

It's not the sexiest side of St. Croix; at least, I imagine, not to most people. Personally, though, I love the wild natural beauty of Hams Bay.
