Caribbean Wallpaper Wednesday: Petit Piton, St. Lucia Featuring T-Pain

Get your towels ready, it’s about to go down!

A couple weeks ago, I used a song to announce my next big adventure for Uncommon Caribbean. It was a classic. It was a huge Grammy winner. It was… uhm… not loved by all. The first thing my brother, and UC partner, Steve said was:

I HATE that song!

From Facebook I got this:

Oh my god…..Christopher Cross….that was back when really ugly people could still make hits.

Ouch.

Well, I’m not really one to learn from my mistakes, so this week’s sailing theme is inspired by yet another song! I’m on a Boat!

I'm On A Boat (ft. T-Pain) - Clean

Quite different from Christopher Cross’ classic, this 2009 single from The Lonely Island‘s debut album Incredibad required a parental advisory sticker for language. While it was also nominated for a Grammy, it didn’t win big like Sailing. Instead, it lost out to the mega-hit of 2009: Jay-Z’s homage to New York, Run This Town.

Regardless, as the countdown to setting sail quickly draws near and my excitement for the experience grows, this song has been doing a better job of capturing my enthusiasm.

That’s all well and good (and funny), but what does any of this have to do with this week’s wallpaper?

Well, our sailing adventure will begin very close to the awe-inspiring view captured above. That gorgeous view is of Petit Piton on St. Lucia. I captured this shot while staying at Stonefield Villa Estate last year. The gorgeous Pitons towered over the property adding a truly unique characteristic to spending quality time off the beaten path, deep in the rainforest.

I’m very much looking forward to returning to St. Lucia this Friday, but our stay will be brief. On Saturday, we’ll castoff from Marigot Bay—sailing down to St. Vincent. We expect an exhilarating 36-mile crossing before anchoring in Wallilabou Bay—recently made famous as a major shooting location for the Pirates of the Caribbean films.

Over the course of the next 6 days, we’ll meander through the Grenadines landing here and there at idyllic destinations like Bequia, Mayreau, Tobago Cays, Palm Island, Petit St. Vincent, Sandy Island and Carriacou. Finally, we’ll end this sailing adventure on the decidedly un-touristy, and therefore perfect for us, Grenada.

I can’t wait to finally be able to declare “I’m on a boat!” But until then, I’ll have to make do looking at that tiny vessel dwarfed by the ironically named Petit Piton in this week’s wallpaper.

I got my swim trunks and my flippy-floppies!
