Machel Montano Opens Up on The Meaning of Carnival with LargeUp.com

Trinidad Carnival means a lot of different things to a lot of different kinds of people, as my brother and UC partner, Patrick, has been discovering these past few days. It’s his first time, and as those of you who follow us on twitter, instagram, and Facebook already know, he’s enjoying it to the max!

My first time two years ago was equally thrilling and exciting, with a somewhat surprising dash of reverence mixed in, owing to the true origins of the celebration and the one-of-a-kind feeling you get when crossing the Savannah Stage for the first time.

Then there was the pageantry of Kings and Queens, the absolute thrill of Panorama, Fantastic Friday more than living up to its name, the amazing Lime Carnival Fete at The Hyatt Regency Trinidad, running off to Maracas Bay to cool off – I seriously could go on and on.

There’s certainly a lot more to Trinidad Carnival than sexy outfits, rum, soca, and getting on bad. To get the full picture, our friends at LargeUp.com recently sat down with the reigning King of Soca, Machel Montano, for this insightful one-on-one interview…
