Les Yoles de Martinique

Les Yoles de Martinique

There’s sailing. Then there’s extreme sailing. Somewhere in the middle is the astounding artistry of yoles sailing. A rich tradition born long ago in Martinique for practical purposes like fishing and transportation, the art of yoles sailing is still nurtured and cherished today through the annual staging of Le Tour des Yoles Rondes. The veritable “Carnival At Sea” presents the best opportunity to see master yoleurs performing their magic. The men literally dance atop the waves, their feet skimming and skipping just above the water, keeping the boat balanced as they race along.

This year’s race is slated for July 29–August 5.
