At the far northwesterly edge of Bananier Beach, Haiti’s politics do not hold sway. Centuries of corruption. Natural disasters. Military occupations. None of the tragedies that have befallen the proudest country in the Caribbean amount to much here. Along these shores, the natural calm and beauty of Haiti prevails. Cellphone calls, email, social media – none of it is accessible here. All you have, as is too often the case for all the wrong reasons in Haiti, is all that you see. At least at Bananier Beach, all that you see is blessing enough.
