It was a hot and steamy Wednesday morning in late-March when I awoke in Le Gosier eager to embark on my first bit of adventuring around Guadeloupe in more than 25 years. The possibilities for fun and uncommon exploration seemed endless. Should I scale La Grande Soufrière, or hop over to Les Saintes? What about trekking over to Marie-Galante to sample some of its amazing rhum agricole, or checking out this sinfully good local restaurant in Deshaies? My head was spinning from all the options, aided in no small part by the initial taste of Guadeloupe rhum I’d enjoyed the night before. To sort my thoughts and settle my head, I ended up following this young woman’s example; wading out into the calm-cool Gosier blues, my direction soon as clear as the water itself.
