Quill Volcano Panorama Point

Quill Volcano Panorama Point High Atop Sint Eustatius

For a modest-sized volcano on a tiny island, the Quill on Sint Eustatius offers a surprising array of adventures. Seven different trails wind up, down, around, and even inside the 1,972-foot tall natural wonder. You can literally enjoy exploring the Quill a different way every day of a weeklong trip to Statia! During my first-ever visit here in April 2025, I chose the 2.7-mile out/back Quill Trail. Total time from the trailhead to the crater rim: just over an hour. My guide, Brian, told me that we made great time, though we had stopped a bunch to take pics, listen, and feel the journey. After a short diversion a few steps down into the crater, we opted to climb higher. The Quill Volcano Panorama Point, Brian counseled, offered some of the best views on the island.

From the Quill Volcano Panorama Point you can see virtually all of Statia’s 8.1 square miles. The airport, the Golden Rock neighborhood, a bit of the capital, Oranjestad – it’s all plainly visible. You can even see the large GTI Statia oil storage facility, the wild Zeelandia Beach region, and the Boven National Park, home to Statia’s other volcanic mounds. Even more hiking adventures can be had among Boven’s five peaks!

Could there be a more concentrated collection of amazing hikes anywhere else than in Statia’s cozy corner of the Caribbean?
