So, you want REAL adventure on your next Caribbean vacation?
You want excitement?
You want crazy thrills some might even call death-defying?
Well, then canyoning in Martinique might be just the thing for you!
Canyoning, also called canyoneering here in the States, basically involves traveling through canyons. As you can see in the video above, though, it only sounds simple.
The terrain is exceedingly treacherous with slippery slopes, deep gorges, dense rainforest, rushing rivers and waterfalls all ganging up against you. To complete your mission, you basically have to do whatever you can to keep going.
At some stages, this might simply involve hiking or swimming – generally pleasant, low-impact activities.

OK, now take a look at that photo above. It’s of a small hotel named Auberge de la Montagne Pelee in the north of the island. Fifteen minutes from the city of Saint Pierre (which we featured recently in another Caribbean Wallpaper post) and at the foot of the very volcano that destroyed Saint Pierre so many years ago, this hotel truly is in their words “a place like no other.” Should you win our giveaway, you might want to pay this wonderfully quaint little property with “sixteen bungalows with typical Creole charm” a little visit for a nice afternoon lunch as we did the day this photo was taken a few years ago.

Uncommon Envy: Lili’s Beach Bar, Martinique’s Sexiest New Party Spot

It’s somewhat distasteful (some might say grotesque) for someone who travels to the Caribbean as often as I do to be envious about missing out on anything down there. That would go double for Martinique since it’s the one Caribbean destination I’ve visited the most in recent years – six trips in five years!
Still, in the 363 days (really, who’s counting?) since I was last seen in the Isle of Flowers an exciting new beach bar/restaurant has burst on the scene that has me more than a little jealous of my friends in Fort-de-France. It’s called Lili’s and it may just be Martinique’s sexiest new party spot.
