Marina Pointe du Bout, Martinique – Wish You Were Here
Marina Pointe du Bout is one of the busiest ports in Martinique. Passenger ferries shuttle people across the Bay of Fort-de-France and back again all day, everyday. (Everyday except Sunday, that is.) Full- and half-day boat excursions cast off from here as well. Huge catamarans laden with tourists and plenty of planteur, they chase dolphins and turtles up and down Martinique’s calm Caribbean coast. Some even duck into bat caves carved out of the sheer sea walls, or skirt uninhabited islets like Ilet Ramier at the mouth of the Bay of Fort-de-France. Indeed, big boat traffic in and around Marina Pointe du Bout is generally pretty heavy, especially throughout the morning hours. In-between the bustle of these larger boats, though, local fisherman still make their way. As with most things in Martinique, authenticity endures.
