Cock Soup: Thick, Hot, Satisfying and Straight from Jamaica

Two words: Cock Soup.

Tee-hee.

Of all the yummy consumables to come out of the Caribbean over the years, surely none is as popular with the more juvenile minds among us. Try it, though, and you’ll find that this stuff is no joke.

As our noted culinary expert friend, Chris De La Rosa from CaribbeanPot.com, likes to say:

Soups in the Caribbean are thick and hearty as most stews are in North America.

Cock Soup Fast!

Generally, a lot of time and effort is required to create all that thick and hearty consistency. What’s great about the cock soup mix from Jamaica’s Grace Foods, though, is that it achieves a close facsimile to homemade in a fraction of the time. Two cups of water and seven to 10 minutes of simmering after a bringing the mix to boil is all that’s required to end up with this…

On its own, a bowl of Cock Soup provides just the type of savory warmth you might need to survive the current protracted winter chill. It’s surprisingly filling too, considering the paucity of thin macaroni noodles and dehydrated carrots that comprise the majority of scant solids included in each packet.

Not that there isn’t a lot of stuff working together to provide warm Jamaican nourishment here. The ingredients list totals a good 40+ items!

Conspicuously absent: chicken.

You won’t even find any chicken flavoring in Grace’s Cock Soup. Instead, it carries more of a fish broth flavor. Indeed, in bold, just beneath the ingredients list, it says:

May contain trace amounts of fish.

Still hearty, satisfying and nice… just no cock.

Cock Soup And More

As good as Grace’s Cock Soup Mix is on its own, it’s even better when used in conjunction with other dishes. Add real noodles, real chicken, dumplings and veggies for a chicken noodle soup Chef Boyardee could only dream about! It also sings over rice with baked, barbecued or steamed chicken or fish.

However you work it into your culinary adventures, Grace’s Cock Soup will reward your taste buds with the type of body and flavor that will have you feeling like you’re back in Jamaica – warm, cozy and completely without cares.

Look for Grace’s Cock Soup in your local grocery store, or order some online here. And don’t forget to check out Grace’s Jamaican Ketchup!
