Sweet Statia Sunset at The Old Gin House
For as small as Sint Eustatius is, the island offers an impressive array of great sunset spots. The highlands of Boven National Park, in particular, must offer fantastic Statia sunset experiences.
Unlike the slopes of The Quill Volcano, Boven’s hills aren’t covered in thick tropical forest. It’s all low-lying scrub grass here, affording sweeping views in every direction.
At the same time, though, the historic ramparts around Fort Oranje are also great. The 17th century fortress rests atop a sheer rock wall at an elevation of 66 feet above sea level. The POV due west across some of the Caribbean’s most historically significant seas is breathtaking.
Below the fort in what’s known as the Lower Town section of the capital city, Oranjestad, a small collection of bars and restaurants line the shore. On the particular Saturday in April 2025 that the wife and I happened to be on-island, we enjoyed our favorite Statia sunset at one of them.
The sexy seaside surrounds of the restaurant at The Old Gin House took me by surprise. I mean, we weren’t in Grand Case or Trois-Ilets, but in many ways it felt like we were. The vibes were truly that nice; the overall experience that sweet.
Wish you were here enjoying a dushi Statia sunset at The Old Gin House…?
