Uncommon Photo-Op: Nine Things to Love About St. Kitts

It’s not hard to love St. Kitts, especially if you love landscape photography. A scant 65 square miles in size (one or two hairs smaller than Washington, D.C.), this petit island paradise packs enough natural beauty to fill an area at least 10 times larger.

Just consider that St. Kitts has three distinct volcanic peaks – the North West or Mount Misery Range, the Middle or Verchilds Range and the South East or Olivees Range – and you get the sense that the landscape photo opportunities here are endless.

But that’s just part of what makes St. Kitts a photographer’s dream.

Way back in the Ice Age, when the sea level was much lower than it is now, the islands of St. Kitts, Nevis, St. Eustatius and Saba were all one big land mass. Today, the other islands’ close proximity to St. Kitts, and the beautiful blue waters that separate them, make for incredible captures.

I was too busy hiking, enjoying fancy dinners and hopping from beach bar to beach bar to get any landscape photos during my trip to Nevis earlier this year. Luckily, our friend, Hiral Gosalia, just returned from St. Kitts with a collection of truly amazing images, most of them landscapes, and he’s agreed to share nine of them with us!

We initially got to know Hiral back in the spring when he submitted some of his fantastic photos to our Flick photo group. We got to know him a little bit better in May when this great photo that he snapped while vacationing in St. John became one of our most popular Wish You Were Here posts.

We’re honored to feature more of Hiral’s wonderful work here today.*

Of course, we’d love to feature some of your pics too!

If you’ve captured any photos of interesting and offbeat people, places or things during your Caribbean travels that you’d like us to consider, you can submit them to our Flickr pool by clicking here. All photo submissions are considered for publication on our site, so get your best images together and join us on Flickr today!
